The La's ‘De Freitas Session 87' - DL-061

Released: 5th April 2010, Download Only

In the early part of 1987, The La’s were attracting a large local following and one of those + who wanted to help the band was Pete De Freitas, the charismatic drummer from Echo & the Bunnymen. Produced by Pete and Jake Brockman (keyboardist in the Bunnymen) using borrowed equipment, this session was recorded over a period of 2 days in and was an important stage in the band’s career. All recorded ‘live’ without any overdubs, these Post Punk, Phil Spector sounding recordings are versions of songs that appeared on their debut album some years later.

01. Way Out
02. Doledrum
03. IOU
04. Failure
05. Timeless Melody
06. Callin’ All
07. Clean Prophet
08. Son of a gun
09. I can’t sleep
10. Liberty Ship
11. Freedom Song

No Looking Glass? No There She Goes?

I hope "no overdubs" means that godawful reverb is gone or this isn't even getting pirated, never mind bought

I reckon the Phil Spector dubbed sounding will mean the reverb and huge soundscape? shame.

**raising a post from the dead!**

So, where can I get a download of the complete session?
I have the viper version (from the 1987 LP & CD) and I have an old download from way back when...
The viper version sounds great but misses the last 5 tracks off (why?) - my old download has the 16 tracks, but is 128K mp3 and compared to the released version sounds pretty awful.
That being said, looking glass is amazing, TSG take 2 is possibly my favourite version of the track, and I would love to get a decent sounding copy (FLAC/WAV), just can't seem to find it anywhere.
What has happened to all the la's bootlegs that used to be easily found?
If anyone (please, pretty please) can point me in the direction of any nice boots I would appreciate it lots, especially the complete de freitas session
ta!
