There She Goes - debut live performance

Hey all - long time no post, hope you're all good!

I think this has possibly been discussed before, but does anyone know when the first performance of There She Goes was? And also, what's the oldest bootleg of it (live)?

The Picket 5/6/87 (44:26)

Available in better quality on Viper's Callin' All.

EDIT: Found that better version:

Always loved the middle 8 in that version. Must have been a tough decision to cut it but they were left with the perfect pop song which incidentally doesn’t really follow the typical structure of one

They must have struggled with the decision. There She Goes was next played in October (87) at the Royal Court, and it was the short no-middle 8 version, just a couple verses. Then it got tucked away for a while.

And even then it took em another year to start integrating it into the set fully, basically because the single came out.

I've been asked on YouTube about that demo in Barry Sutton's flat, 'wouldn't it make more sense for it to be 1987, not 88?' I simply think it took them til '88 to solidify the song (the first studio attempt was with Leckie in spring 88), though Barry only joined in 88 anyway. And with the flat demo, and Leckie's attempts, this original Picket middle 8 is nowhere in sight.

A shame there isn't just one other recording with it, though overall I think they made the right choice

What's everyone's thoughts to the lyrics of that middle 8?

I've always heard;

I find it hard to play a part
I thought I'd just get a guitar
And now it starts
It's never over

I find it hard to play a part
A poor boy couldn't get a good job
But now I'm starting
To win her over

(Nothing quite seems to fit...)

I thought the lyrics were completely different until I read the interpretations here, I don't know now.

Is Neil mavers the cheering voice at the start?

Hopefully Lee re-records it with the middle 8 when the album comes out.
