Lee was at Abbey Road (unknown year)

Postby Tony » Mon Sep 05, 2016 11:01 pm

Weird, an article about a singing bus driver had a one line mention of Lee.

http://m.burtonmail.co.uk/burton-s-sing ... story.html

The EP has been mastered by Fran Ashcroft, an engineer at Abbey Road Studios, in London, and has now been released onto iTunes. Mr Ashcroft has previously worked on music for the likes of Lee Mavers and Gorillaz.

Goes in the trivia file alongside that BBC sound Van the La's bought, and the Rat Scabies sessions, as most likely the hidden years.

I know Fran Ashcroft. He was in a band called the monos in the 60s.

Check out his book "Less is more" (back to basics recording techniques). I can see why lee would be into working with Fran.

He worked with my older brother on an Album his band Azure Halo released a few years ago.

My brother relayed to me that Fran was working with Lee and I subsequently got into a discussion with Fran and sent him the mixes I did of the Mick Moss sessions.

It wasn't an abbey road thing with Lee.

At that point it was a old Demo snippet roughly 1 minute long of an apparently amazing (quote "Glorious ") track that they were trying to get recorded proper. Seems Lee

was infrequently around but intended to do the vocals and it was to be released as a single.

Fran was also working with Lee Garnet a the time.

He asked me to keep it all hush for reasons I wont go into but given it's 8 years and there's been hee haw delivered I saw this post and thought I'd respond and let the cat out the bag :D

This was all back in 2008. I just searched back in my emails and went back over some of the conversations I had with Fran.

I have Abbey Road mentioned in correspondence, in an archived Outlook .pst file somewhere, it might be you Paul, I do remember someone closer to Merseyside tipping me off, a few years back. Apologies, all terribly vague.. :(

Yeah not to say Lee hadn't done time in Abbey Road. Something I've no idea about and don't remember reading about specifically.

Just not with Fran Ashcroft.

I spoke to Fran last night. He spent time in Lees studio and Lee garnets studio.

There was a year or 2 of pushing and pulling and he gave up after that. Despite only needing vocals done.

But alas another chapter in the "will he wont he ever put anything out" Saga.

I guess you either want to or you don't.....

------>Every now and then he does--------->and then he doesn't------->

....loop forever

 Strange what a random aside in an article unearths..!

Sort of typical how it turned out also. That's a familiar tune.

Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag Daggsy! That cat's something I can't explain...

I asked about he name od the track

The track had no title and no lyrics.

The Multitracks got done but no vocals or lyrics got done without even a guide vocal

It was a rain era beatles type vibe.

ach well.
