How do you think The La's would fare in the charts?

Postby redlandsman87 » Thu Jul 12, 2012 2:13 am

Not that I think it really matters, or if Lee cares all that much, but how successful do you think a new single or LP release would be?

The La's, to me personally, have always been a #1 band, despite their chart history. Their releases have fluctuated anywhere from #196 to #2, that number two of course going to There She Goes. The band never did receive a #1.

Would the long hiatus, rumors, and the mystique surrounding The La's catapult Lee into the coveted #1 spot if he were release something (anything!) new? Thoughts?

absolutely sod all in the singles charts - literally 100 copies or something.

albums i guess they'd have a chance to get top ten. but in short: i just dont think enough people give a shit anymore to buy singles/albums etc. even if lee did come back now with a full-on second album i reckon he'd find it difficult to get huge coverage for it. there's no way they'd get stone roses style press. prob get one feature in each of the broadsheets/the sun, and then the standard music press coverage.

There's a lot of reviewers of, 'a certain age' that would help the hype, there is goodwill there, I'm sure.. but then, we're back to that question, would the band play along with any PR campaign?

The only way it would get in the charts would be through a lot of PR, where would come from? And as you said Syl, would they want to go along with it?

Would be good if we had a chance to see though.
