No John No La's

Postby plastic scouser » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:37 pm

Just realised that I don't wanna hear another note from the la's unless john is involved!

Just watched the stone roses thing and the la's never had the band gang thing the roses had but from me they were always about lee and john. John's the missing link for lee. Would love to know why nothing progressed with john when they last toured?? It's says it all for me really.

It all comes down to ego...I hate to say it, but I don't think the La's has anything more to offer John. In many ways, he's surpassed Lee.

Unless Cast dissolves again and Lee comes out with some of those new (pretty old now, I guess?) tunes everybody has been going on about AND Lee gives John a larger share in songwriting/singing, I can't see him being interested.

Agree with the first post that The La's are nothing without John. His and Lee's voice to me = musical excellence. However, I get the sense that John wants to get back with The La's. He evens said as much in a recent interview at a Cast gig! He wants it, but maybe Lee's ego won't allow it? Who knows. Enjoy Cast while we have them back is probably the best way to go on. I don't see anything coming from The La's again.

I don't agree with people saying john wouldn't work again with lee, on many interviews this year he has said he is always there if lee wants him, one quote when asked if he is in the La's was "i wil forever man that gun".I think we should all just have to respect that Lee for whatever reason does not want us to hear any new material.

John would re-join the La's in a hearbeat as he seems to crave credibility and seems to be more interested in his association with the La's than Cast, despite him not writing any of the songs or bass lines and having reformed Cast! With Cast now he's got a drummer who is usually working and gets all bitchy on Twitter when they record or do any gigs without him and Skin has started working with Robert Plant again......... maybe not a lot of mileage in it, especially when ticket sales appear to be way down from the first tour, although probably way more than solo.

no mate, nothing to do with photos!!! Was just saying that the magic of the stone roses for me was about the 4 guys whereas the the la's was about two guys and two changable extras (drums and lead gtr). As others have said the two bands are completely different but have both affected me in different ways. I just wanted to make the point that all the time lee was "working" with drew then gary I realy didn't find myself getting all that excited especially as gary doesn't sing (imagine the stripped back stuff just lee and john!! It would have been amazing, those harmonies filling out the sound).

Gary used to sing in The Bandits am positive. Also he was supposed to sing with Lee I believe but was building up to that? Am sure it was mentioned they were trying to nail the tight musicianship between them but were rehearsing with full harmonies? I may be wrong, but am sure that was the case.

Both bands were a gang. Both bands were also polar opposite from a gang. Depends on the day and week! I could believe more that I'd be stood in a room and the four members of The La's would walk in together socialising. Less so with The Stone Roses.

The La's was about the music, Lee and John's parts were set in stone, so to speak, but the variety between different eras with lead guitar and drums can be interesting indeed for a muso trainspotter type.

For example Hemmings' way of playing Freedom Song and Doledrum vs Cammy's; but then Barry Sutton also added to the vocal harmonies.
