I agree. The Mike Hedges IOU is the one i listen to. But the album version has a tasty acoustic guitar

And yes, the la's are not the best band to get into, i helped a girl who was getting into them on discord by showing alternative versions, unreleased tracks and such. But i like that, i guess. Love the mystery around them, it helps building this cult-like fanbase. Makes you proud to know them because you had to dig deep.

Maybe he is just completely fed of the songs, over it, hence the lack of musical activity. over the last 30 years

What bit? the d-d-d-d- quick machinegunny rhythm licks? combination of the thumb and a very loose flamenco wrist shake that catches meaningful upstrokes

I see Lee doing some trick on the fretting hand as well

Can't work out the fretting hand, think it's a mix of muting and fast movement (son of a gun is like that), but the quick "tumble" thing is, when I do it, it's a shake, tiny shake, back and forth, thumb stiff to make definite upstrokes and downstrokes (it's easier without a pick) yet wrist fluid.. hard to explain.

Lee's such a fantastic rhythm player though. I've worked out like, one trick in twenty years of studying him! I can do a decent Son of a Gun, but man, he taps out the beat at the TOP of the guitar and that's just sooo difficult.. yet he seems so fluid! (Which is all the more reason to be down about the 2005+ lazy strumming of Son of a Gun and, insanely, the TSG intro)

I know right, the way the taps the guitar on Son of a gun is so hard. He is an effortless guitar player

Got a shock when I read that tour was 2005... It seemed so long after the fact then...

That is closer to the release date of The La's LP than today

I use E, A and B. When is the F#?

it's always sounded more like F# than B to me but not married to it like! chorus the way i play is is A G E G, A G E G, A G E G, F# x5 (n thats when you press the G note on the E string)

I've seen him in a stripped back show playing B7, ×21200 chord and it sounds correct.
And the chorus goes A GA E G. Still havent managed to do the rolls he does, but im almost there, i hope

And the verse goes E G E GAG

The rolls seem simple now. I think he just keeps the same strum but does quick chord changes. Sometimes i manage to barely do it, but i still haven't mastered it, so i can't confirm it yet

Yeah it's like a tumble. Really. Keep your fingering light upon the strings for the chords

It's muscle memory
Perhaps a reason why he couldn't recreate it in 05/11...

He did https://youtu.be/Vo8pqlHb0hc

Which is weird, he could do all the tumbles and rolls, but not play Son Of A Gun properly. Maybe he just didn't want to...
