Nice one Chris. He's been doing it for the last few thursdays and occasionally pops in while passing to jam on the piano with whoever's performing (there's a good community of musicians playing pretty much every night of the week). A couple of weeks ago I accompanied him on bass for a handful of La's songs and last week he attempted to play through the album start to finish but ended up taking requests.

I took on the task of managing the bar a few months ago and have been steadily transforming it from scallies bar to comfortable bohemian hangout. I should've posted earlier but been that busy with working 2 jobs! Anyway, look forward to meeting anyone from on here. If you're driving, the address is 232 Smithdown Road, L15 5AH. Ask for Mark Scotland and yer first drink's on me! :D

Long time no update...

Barry had a short notice Sunday night show (last night) in The Lounge (usually his residency is a Thursday) - it was also Neil Mavers' birthday, so he and Cammy came down to play with Barry. Both still have the chops. Sound fella's too. My phone battery was dying, but not before catching a bit of Cammy playing with Barry, Neil had just got off the kit, hence Barry screaming for Neil to get back up and play. Cammy was in his element all night, as if he was 20 years old again. Great stuff.

Cammy has been in a few times before, absolutely top bloke and great to hear him play again. First time I've met Neil but recognised him straight away. We had a few technical issues on Sunday which I think was due to the heatwave (went through loads of guitar strings and leads) but was a great night as usual. Highly recommend getting down early on Thursday, it's bound to be a good night and who knows who Barry's going to invite next... :)

I'll be supporting Barry at the next Electone Records night at The Baltic Social. Spoke to Barry in the week and he said he was 'working on a starting lineup and tactics' and it's possible anyone from Cammy, Budgie, Nick Miniski and/or Neil Mavers might be playing. Who knows til the night eh?!

"Electone Records monthly Liverpool club night residency continues in June with a fantastic Glastonbury alternative all for FREE!

We are delighted to have Barry Sutton (The La’s, Kung Fu) bring his amazing new band BEATNIK HURRICANE to the fold! We also have the sensational CHRIS PARKES with a delightful acoustic set fresh from his support with John Power and John Lennon-McCullagh. BBC Radio Merseyside/Introducing’s DAVE MONKS will be on DJ duties to launch his new ‘pick of the month’ feature beginning July with Electone.

Best of all we have some very special guests doing a full band performance.

Update.. as many of you know Beatnik Hurricane have been striking around town of late...

I've been appointed Creative Director (don't get me started..) and me and Barry have put some ideas out there.
We've now got some official pages where you can keep up to date with updates from me and Barry here:
https://www.facebook.com/beatnikhurricane
https://www.mixcloud.com/beatnikhurricane

We've established a settled line up with Cali (14 year old wonder kid, true story) Leon (Ian McCulloch's former bassist) and a re-emerged Cammy.

Next gig is next week, 24th February upstairs in The Pilgrim, stand by for quite a show.. on at about 9/9.30.. £3 to get in, £8 to get out.

There's also two big dates in The Everyman Bistro on Hope Street in Liverpool, first of which is Friday 13th March, with special guests.

After that, Barry will play a solo show in Swansea in May, date to be confirmed due to the FA Cup final date and Liverpool's progression (another true story) before we head over to Ireland for a matinee show in Doyle's Pub in Dublin on Saturday 6th June before headlining Sweeneys, support from internet sensation Dave Keenan, myself and The Statics. Hopefully another date on Friday 5th in Dundalk, to be confirmed..

Should be incredible. Hope to see a few of you down at a show! C.

Retro Revival Indie Club presents from Liverpool Barry Sutton & Cammy (The La's) & Beatnik Hurricane Non-Linear Light Entertainment Collective
Sweeneys Bar Adm: €5

Barry Sutton (Fabian Rothschilde) joined The La's in August 1988 appearing in the music video for "There She Goes". Beatnik Hurricane formed in December 2010. Starting as acoustic sets, this gradually developed into a full band show with a revolving line up of musicians including Budgie, Cammy, Neil Mavers, Tony Elson (Real People), Leon (Ian McCulloch band), Steve (Scarface & The Pigs), Mick Marshall (Edgar Jones), Mark (The Proprietor), Beardo (Rampton secure psychiatric unit). Sutton has also fronted Mirrorball, played with The Stairs, Cast & several Liverpudlian outfits over the past 20 years. An outstanding musician & highly regarded on the Liverpoool Indie scene. This will be his first visit to Ireland & Dublin with Beatnik Hurricane.

Support on the night comes from The Statics, David Keenan The Dead Beat & from Liverpool Chris Parkes.

Beatnik Hurricane and myself are also playing Dundalk on Friday June 5th. Barry has a solo show on 30th May in Swansea at The Lemon Factory. A few favourites thrown in for good measure. Don't miss it! Make yourselves known if you make it to a show!
