America is in trouble. Change is coming, never give in. Time for Pete Seeger plus all the '60's protest songs again. You might get an idea now why Liverpool is my kind of town.

Pete Seeger - This Land is Your Land https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HE4H0k8TDgw
One more, All You Fascists Bound to Lose! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwcKwGS7OSQ
Alright one from Britain, Way Out, yep it's a protest song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IExqakYhTI

You've got great taste. Check out Phil Ochs. Doesn't matter what--all his songs touch on much the same thing--although I will single out "Crucifixion" and "Ringing of Revolution" as particular faves of mine. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but you're a relatively rare example of a stateside La's fan, right? If so, please know you're not alone. I live about a half-hour southwest of Boston.

Also, EVERYONE should check out this artist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzsLf3Kxilo I see a little Lee in her, if only for that same mish-mashing of every style under the sun all in one song.

Cheers jcalz216. Good to know you're here! There are a few others and quite a number of countries are represented. Of course the UK dominates. Ochs is the one I sometimes remember I forget. I first heard some of his songs ages ago but have to be in the right mood & the lyrics require close attention. Piercingly stark truth yet beautifully delivered. A singing journalist. A couple of his songs are a tiny bit like the Kinks with sardonic bite though less upbeat, playful. I'll listen to him some more. Thx for tip on Golden, hadn't heard of her. Quite the trailblazer and collage of styles. If Spotify is any indication, and not sure it is, The La's seem most popular in NY. New Mexico and Santiago, Chile have a surprising # of listeners.

I'd always imagined what Gorge Martin would have done with The La's had he produced them. Then, I heard the Royal Philharmonic's instrumental cover of "There She Goes" and had an "Aha" moment. This is the result that I'd just posted on YouTube -- A remix with a full-on orchestral backing (as George Martin might've envisioned) and a visual homage to Liverpool of the '80s/'90s.

The Onset. 1991 promo video for First I Feel You, filmed at the Pier Head in Liverpool. So cool! I like Mike's vocals and the flow of the song better here than much of his La's work. Less choppy. Hemmings is always good, IMO. Mike gets his say, whatever it's about, I think that feeling has long passed.

Oh no, not Badger. Looking at this video I think I could have fallen in love with him. How unexpected. Crazy.

Macefield said Mavers had been enthusing about Lightnin' Slim. There's more interesting guitar work but going to pick this song for the lyrics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V8-tK2YMrI

I could never get on board with Badger's voice. It never sounded authentic to me. It's always had a feeling of affectation to me.

All I can say is Badger and Mavers had a positive spiritual influence on each other. I hope they have or will mend as friends. Together they were finding meaning and wisdom in words with la in them. Mavers was still talking about the Oglala tribe in '95, which the NME reporter unfairly assumed was scousebabble. http://www.firstpeople.us/FP-Html-Wisdom/BlackElk.html

Not sure how I missed this Come In Come Out version before but it's cracking me up. I can't even describe it but love it. Kinda bossa nova maybe. Think I'll be playing it all night.

Looks like a one man cloned band, our future?

Worth a look, have the band to ourselves.

I'll take the soul and delivery of Mavers every time over technical mastery. Danny Gatton was admired by many great guitarists and some feel he never got his due rewards. This one to me has a bit more feeling than some of his other styles. Check comment section.

Kendal Calling 2011. Better video of crowd & some particularly ecstatic fans.
