i think lee looks not bad for nearly 43. some guys are grey or haven't even got hair by that age. its because most people havent seen him for so long they expect him to be like he was as a young man, which is silly. anyway it feels like i just saw em yesterday, the years just dissolve away.
there she goes again!

He looks fine. He really looks quite similar to how he did in the shots 10 years ago onwards. Kept his hair too!

John could do with a bit of a shave though! :D

OOO series guitar

Postby casinojack » Tue May 17, 2005 6:00 pm

That's a telling pic of Lee--with a nice slotted head 000 series maybe a 000-16 Martin style--great for fingerpicking! Er... looks to me like he's got der nails latched onto those strings, too! :D Mmmmmm!! :D :D :D

I've seen a couple of the lads from the band in recent weeks and they've looked a lot better than in the photos!

I think that that's the guitar that the charity is giving away in the auction. It's not very likely that it's Lee's own guitar(but that would be good if it was his!!
I can only think of one instance when a nylon string guitar is heard on a La's record and that would be Man,I'm Only Human.
Can anyone think of another example?

nylon strings?

Postby da capo » Sat May 21, 2005 8:30 pm

I think there are some fills on Son of a Gun that are done on a nylon string classical guitar. It's hard to tell with all the overdubs going on. It's weird how even though the tape speed has been slowed down the guitars sound kind of 'plinky' for lack of a better term. I used to think it might have been the mic choice (AKG D190?) but hearing the Callin All 86 demos that doesn't seem to follow. Considering all the production tricks that it took to put this album together it's amazing that Lillywhite has never done an interview with Sound On Sound about how he stitched it all together. Lee says in the Rapido footage that there are "voices where there weren't voices" mixed into the recordings. Does anyone else think that the background vocals on Doledrum don't sound like John Power? That quote in turn made me think of another interview where Lee said that the only reason that the album came out was because of the co-operation of other band members....

After the success of Macey's book maybe he could manage to get to Lillywhite for the inevitable second edition.

Anyone go? Was it a success. I'd be interested to know what sort of prices the La's related stuff went for. Was anything else interesting up for grabs?
