Great Northwestern Hoboes tabs

Postby kopite1892 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:41 pm

Was listening to Take A Ride all day, thought I'd have a shot with my guitar, and it worked (it's only my 3rd tab like)
Have to share this somewhere, so I thought I'd put it here.

TAKE A RIDE - THE GREAT NORTHWESTERN HOBOES

You can play it with a capo on 1st fret

Intro and Verse :
Am-Em-F-G (x3)
F
(can play 0-3-4 on the bass E string)

(the verse before the Chorus, you play a G after the F chord)

Chorus :
C-G
C
F-Em
F-Em
F-Em
F
(can play 0-3-4 on the bass E string)

Outro :
F-G (x6)
Am-Em-F-G (x3)
Em-F-G-Am (each chord strummed once)

Lead guitar goes like this in the Intro :
--------------3-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5----------------6--5--3--5----------------5--3----------------------5--3-------------3------
---2-2-2-2--------------------2-2-2-2-----------5--4--5---2-2-2-2----------5--4--5----------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's pretty much it. You'll have to excuse my poor guitar language, I'm not used to tabbing an' all.
Feel free to add or correct something.
Hope that more Hoboes tab are posted here.

Verse :
F Dm F Dm

F Dm F Dm
when i found somebody at your door
A# C
well it wasn't me
A# C
and i could clearly see
F Dm F...
that you were missin' me

So I had to come to your defence
and jumped right over your garden fence
and you just looked at me
like i was out my tree
well are ya missin' me

Chorus :
...C
Missing meeeeeeeee
Dm
in the mornin...
F
Baby when you lay at night
C
Cant you seeeeeeeeee

Dm
that i'm fallin..
F
need'n you to hold me tight

So i asked him why he's next to you
said that you where his someone new
I knew it couldnt' be
Cos' I could clearly see
that you were missin' me

Missing meeeeeeeee
in the mornin...
Baby when you lay at night
Cant you seeeeeeeeee
that i'm fallin..
needed you to hold me tight

I was walkin' round my house before
when i found somebody at my door
well it wasn't you
it broke my heart in two
Cos' I was missin' you
and I was missin' you
and I was missin' you
and I was missin' you
and I was missin' you

Have a couple of others I've kinda worked out but not tabbed: Playing On A Mountain Side, World Still Spins Around, My Girl. Will have to get round to writing them out..

FOGTROTTER

This is one of my favourite Hoboes tunes. Probably their only 'dark' song.
Gonna do a cover with my bird on the violin someday.

CAPO ON THE FIRST FRET

The C* played in the chorus :
e---3--
B---1--
G---0--
D---2--
A---3--
E---x--

--INTRO--

A-Bb (x4)
A-Bb (x2) [strummed]

--VERSE--

A Bb A
Is it you and it's settling down
A Bb A
On the grass in the fields of this town
A Bb A
You can't hear your own voice make a sound
A Bb A
You can't see your own feet touch the ground

--CHORUS--

Bb F
Fox coming in (I don't know)
Bb F
Where to begin (I don't know)
Bb F C*
How can I win in this life
N.C. A
Don't go outside

--VERSE--
Terror walks and it starts in the night
You can't see through the dark misty light
Never seen such a devilish sight
So I hide and I run for my life

--CHORUS--
Fox coming in (I don't know)
Where to begin (I don't know)
How can I win in this life
Don't go outside

--VERSE--
Is it you and it's settling down
On the grass in the fields of this town

--CHORUS--
Fox coming in (I don't know)
Where to begin (I don't know)
How can I win in this life (I don't know)
How can I win in this life (I don't know)
How can I win in this life (I don't know)
How can I win in this life

End on C* (strummed once)

Pretty much it. Sounds right to me.

--------s7--------------------s5-4-5----------------7--
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------

G_________________c___C/E_Am
My girl never got much to say
Am_____________________D________________________
Another minute & i'll meet you down the alleyway
G_________________C___C/E_Am
Down than river I'll sail away
__________________________D__________________
So don't worry I'll be seein' you another day
G________________C__C/E_Am
Oh my honey I won't be long
________________________D_______________
Before am comin' I'll be singin' you a sailors song
________________________D___
Though every word be wrong
________________________D__________
I'll be singin' to the only girl that I belong

BA..DA...BAA BAA BUM etc..

________Am_______D__________G__D__Em
Well I swing & sway on my merry way

______Am______________D___
Going home, where I roam..

This is not perfect - in the tuning i worked it out in - its probably not the same as the original, just the chords Ive got off the top of me head corrections are welcome from the band. Will be seeing the lads soon at the next Old time religion esp. Stu, looking forward to seeing The Wellgreen (boss band if nowt have heard them yet they are mint).. Did anyone catch the antiques roadshow this week?
