Here you are mate:-

FREEDOM SONG(for Ben and anyone elso who's interested)

(you can play an E OR an E7 chord where an E chord is indicated)

Intro
Dm
(just for this bit leave your finger OFF the high E string when you play the Dm chord.Hit the strings from the D string up to the high E string.
These are the first four notes of the intro. For the fifth note fret the last bit of the Dm chord by putting your first finger on the high E string at the first fret.Hit.Yeh?)

B7
(this is quite complicated because it's an inversion of a B7.This is how it is fretted):-

eadgbe
x64445

Play each string from A string to High E one by one. These are the nextfive notes of the intro.

Then(chords):-
E______ F__E

Then single notes on lowest string:-
E F# Ab

For the verse play an Am and for every bar alternate between an
A note(open 2nd string) then hit Am chord
and a Low E note(open first string)then hit Am again a bit like this.("Dum" is the bass note and "Chung" is the Am chord)

Like:-

A(note)-Am(chord) E(note)-Am(chord) A(note)-Am_____ E(note)-Am
(Dum__Chung____Dum___Chung____Dum___Chung___Dum___Chung)

Then fret and keep an F chord and pluck the
E string,hit the F chord,then the A string,hit the F chord.

Then E chord and do the same,so it's
E string,E chord,A string,E chord

Whenever the chords reappear the bass notes are the same as above(I hope you can understand this!)

Anyway here's the chords in full:-

Intro
Dm__________B7________E________F____E______

Verse etc...
Am__________________________
All this world seems bent upon,Contemplating Babylon

F________________________E________
Fate is sealed inside a bomb,Where has all the freedom gone

Am__________________
There's a place for eveyone,Live and die our kingdom come
F____________________E_________________
But until the web is spun,Everybody must have fun
E_________________________
I'm not scared to die,God help me
F____________________________
We went to the same schools and we
Dm__________B7___________E______F__E___
All learned the same rules of lament

Repeat for all verses and solo.
End goes

Am____E_______
E_Am

Good luck and feel free to ask me anything that puzzles you(I tried to make it simple but I think I just made it more coimplicated!!)

Cheers,
Paul

Nah you never made it complicated mate, you described that well rod cow, thats the way i play it...The solo isn't hard either.

I love it in that song where Lee sings 'Im not scared to die, God help me'. class

I AM THE KEY

Postby Rod Cow » Thu May 26, 2005 2:36 am

I AM THE KEY
(tune your lowest E string down to a D note)

When playing the D chord you can let the lowest E ring out as it's now a Dnote,
The A chord is the same as usual as you mute the lowest E string

The G chord is slightly different as you now fret the G note at the fifth fret of the low E string, mute the A string next to it,play the next two strings open, fret the B string at the 3rd fret and mute the high E string

Like this
G chord(with 'D' tuned low 'E' string)
eadgbe
5x003x

(To play the jangly lead riff you can just play a D chord but leave the high E string open and pick around the notes)

Right-o.Here we go:-

(Play a D chord for 4 beats then a A for 2 and a G for 2 beats each time)

D______________A_____G_____

D______________A_____G_____

Verse
D______________A_____G_____
I Am the key

D______________A_____G_____
You are the door

D______________A_____G_____
I am the sea

D______________A_____G_____
You are the shore

D______________________________A_____G______
Do you know what you're looking for

D______________________________A_________
Do you know what for

G_______________A_________D___G_______A___
____Cos I am the key, open the door, open the door

(First time go back to top and repeat)

A_______D______G_____A
Open the doo-ooo-o-oo-o-or

Other bit:-
A________G*__________A__________G*__________A__
Open the door, open the door, open the door, open the door,

_________G*___________A
open the door,open the door

________G_____________A__________D
Open the do---o--o---o--o--or,open the door

(Where G* is shown you should play a G chord with an A note in the bass which is done by playing the A,D,G,B and high E strings open and muting the low E string like this):-

eadgbe
x00000

So you can basically go from the A chord and then just take all your fingers off the frets(muting the lowest E string with your thumb)and not moving them too far away
Then you just put all your fingers back where they came from for the A chord that follows.
This isn't how Lee plays it as he just plays an ordinary G chord while John stays on an A note on the bass but if you play it like this then it'll make more sense musically if you play it on your own.

As before if there's anything that need further explaination divvn't hesitate to ask man.
Good Luck,

Cheers,
Paul

Totally agree with yer there mate. It's a great touch and one that seems quite unique to Mr,Mav.Just the language and inflection of the words or whatever.
Aye,
IT'S ALL GOOD!

Pablo
