themusicproject presents

EDGAR 'Jones' JONES and The Magic Five, The Cluny, Newcastle upon Tyne, November 28th. Tickets £9.

The illustrious Edgar Jones (formerly Edgar Summertyme) visits the North-East on the back of one of the best recordings of his career, Soothing Music for Stray Cats, an innovative witches brew of Jazz, R 'n' B, Soul, Doo Wop, all mixed with Edgars' own special ingredients to create something quite unique. His first solo album in almost 13 years, recorded with Johnny Marr's eight track, this record marks a spectacular return to form. Want an informed opinion? None other than Noel Gallagher remarked, ‘It bent my head, man. It's probably one of the best records I have ever heard.'

Edgar first came to prominence in the 90’s with the seminal psychedelic garage band The Stairs, who's single Weed Bus and the following album Mexican R 'n' B went on to become undisputed classics. He has worked with the best : Paul Weller, Johnny Marr, St Etienne and the lost La, Lee Mavers, as well as forming 'The Big Kids' who featured two of the future Zutons and Howie Payne of The Stands.

Both The Stairs and The Big Kids have been influential on the current music scene and Soothing Music for Stray Cats will continue to set the standard once again.

This is a rare opportunity to catch this legendary figure, with his excellent band The Magic Five – his only gig north of Liverpool this year.

Supporting are excellent local melodic psyche-beat band The Everlasting First and dj's

Tickets are available from the venue or direct from themusicproject, email us at info@themusicproject.co.uk for details/booking.

What a unbelievable gig that was! Get your arses along to Salford to check him out on December 16th, I'm hoping to get him back to the NE next year.

The bloke should be a big name...start petitioning your radio stations!
